This Refund Policy (the “Policy”) sets out the payment structure, withdrawal of subscription (cancellation of contract), termination, and the standards and procedures for refunds of the Consilience paid subscription services (the Plus, Pro, Ultra, and Enterprise (Business) plans) provided by Consilience (the “Company” or “operator”).
This Policy forms part of the Company’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Anything not specifically addressed in this Policy is governed by the Terms of Service and applicable law. Where this Policy conflicts with the Terms of Service, this Policy prevails on matters of refunds and payment.
Protection of mandatory consumer-law rights. Nothing in this Policy excludes or limits the rights mandatorily guaranteed to consumers under Korea’s Act on the Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce, the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions, the Framework Act on Consumers, and similar laws. To the extent this Policy conflicts with applicable law, that part has no effect and is instead governed by applicable law.
Payments for Consilience paid subscriptions are processed through Paddle.com Market Ltd (“Paddle”, based in the United Kingdom). As the legal seller and Merchant of Record (MoR) for the transaction, Paddle is responsible for billing, calculating and collecting taxes such as VAT, processing payment methods, and executing refunds.
During checkout, Paddle processes the buyer’s email address and payment-method identifiers. The checkout screen displays Paddle’s payment page (Paddle Checkout) and the Paddle Buyer Terms.
As the mail-order distributor that markets, advertises, and operates Consilience in Korea, the Company owes consumers the duties of disclosure, notice, receipt of withdrawal requests, and processing of refunds under this Policy. Even though payments and refunds are actually executed through Paddle, the Company is the party responsible to consumers for fulfilling withdrawal and refund obligations.
The Company is your support channel. Please direct all inquiries — withdrawal, refunds, subscriptions, payment errors, and the like — to the Company’s customer support (hello@consilience.md). Once received, the Company carries out follow-up such as refunds through Paddle. Buyers may also request a refund directly from Paddle’s order-history screen.
Your note content has nothing to do with payment. Regardless of subscription, payment, refund, or cancellation, your notes (.md files) and knowledge graph stay right where they are on your device. Payment processing is separate from your content.
The plans offered by the Company are as follows. Prices are in U.S. dollars (USD); taxes such as VAT are added and displayed at checkout by Paddle in accordance with applicable law.
The prices above apply to paid subscriptions. Any change to pricing or benefits is announced in advance, as set out in Article 7 of this Policy (Pricing and Benefit Changes).
Method and timing of supply. Consilience is a digital service: once payment is complete, the features of the relevant plan become available immediately (for example, paid features are activated). The workspace-share link-generation feature uploads a workspace bundle to cloud storage only when you create a share link; if you only export to a file, the content stays local.
Method and timing of payment. Paid subscriptions are charged monthly through Paddle and billed immediately upon payment. The Company publishes pricing, payment methods, the deadlines, exercise methods, and effects of withdrawal and termination, refund conditions and procedures, the transaction terms, and consumer dispute-handling matters in this Policy, on the pricing page, and in the Terms of Service, and makes those contents available as an electronic document upon contract formation.
14-day refund guarantee. In accordance with the Paddle Buyer Terms, and separately from the statutory withdrawal right below, the Company refunds the full amount of a charge to any user who requests a refund within 14 days of the payment date (for recurring payments, each renewal payment date). This is a Company commitment more favorable to users than the statutory withdrawal right, and it applies regardless of the withdrawal restrictions in Article 5 (that is, regardless of whether use has begun).
Statutory withdrawal right. Separately from the guarantee above, a user (consumer) may withdraw within 7 days of whichever of the following applies (Article 17(1) of the E-Commerce Act).
Extended withdrawal right. Where the goods, etc. differ from what was indicated or advertised, or are performed differently from the contract, the user may withdraw within 3 months of the date the goods, etc. were supplied, or within 30 days of the date the user knew or could have known of that fact (Article 17(3) of the E-Commerce Act).
Where withdrawal is lawfully made within the periods above and none of the restrictions in Article 5 apply, the Company refunds the full amount.
A Consilience subscription constitutes the provision of a service and of digital content. Under Article 17(2) of the E-Commerce Act, where the provision of a service or digital content has begun, withdrawal is, in principle, restricted. In other words, from the moment you pay for a subscription and begin using the relevant features (accessing them, using their functionality, etc.), the statutory withdrawal right may be restricted.
The 14-day refund guarantee is not subject to this restriction. This Article’s restriction applies only to the statutory withdrawal right above; the 14-day refund guarantee in Article 4 applies regardless of whether use has begun.
Conditions for the restriction to be valid (prior notice and consent). The restriction above applies only where the Company ① clearly indicates, in a place the user can easily see, that withdrawal is restricted, and ② obtains the user’s consent before payment and before use begins. If the Company has not taken these measures, the 7-day withdrawal right in Article 4 remains in effect regardless of whether provision has begun (the proviso to Article 17(2) and Article 17(6) of the E-Commerce Act).
Accordingly, on the screen immediately before payment, the Company clearly indicates that “paying now means the service becomes available immediately, and withdrawal is restricted for the portion that has been used,” and obtains the user’s explicit consent.
Withdrawal for divisible portions. Where a subscription consists of divisible services or digital content, you may withdraw with respect to the portion for which provision has not begun (Article 17(2) of the E-Commerce Act). In a monthly subscription, where there is a next charge for which use has not yet begun, the refund for that portion is governed by Articles 6 and 7 of this Policy.
Paid subscriptions renew automatically each month. When a user cancels, renewal stops from the next payment date. The subscription period already paid through the time of cancellation remains active and usable until that period ends.
Pro-rated refunds. For a subscription period that has already begun and is in use (the current billing cycle), the Company, as a rule, does not provide pro-rated refunds unless a withdrawal ground under Articles 4 and 5 of this Policy or a ground under Article 8 (material defect, erroneous charge, etc.) applies. This is because service use remains intact for the remaining period even after cancellation.
How to cancel. Cancellation is provided in a manner as easy as signing up. You can cancel directly in the app or account settings, or request cancellation through the Company’s customer support (hello@consilience.md).
Advance notice of auto-renewal and conversion to paid. Where there is a next renewal of a recurring payment, a conversion from free to paid, or an increase in the charged amount, the Company gives advance notice by email or similar before the scheduled payment date.
First-month-free trial (Plus). The Plus plan starts with a free first month. Your card is saved at sign-up but is not charged during the free period; unless you cancel before the free month ends, the subscription automatically converts to the paid Plus plan ($25/month) and billing begins. You may cancel at any time during the free month at no charge — in the app or account settings, or through customer support.
Paid subscriptions are billed at the prices listed in Article 3, and the withdrawal, termination, and refund provisions of this Policy apply to them as written.
Where pricing or benefits change, the Company gives users advance notice before the change takes effect. The pre-change terms continue to apply to transactions already in progress.
In the following cases, a refund is provided regardless of whether use has begun.
Where service use is restricted or suspended because the user violated the Company’s Terms of Service or applicable law, refunds may be restricted for the resulting period of unavailability.
How to apply. Refunds (including withdrawal) may be requested by one of the following methods.
Processing institution. The actual execution of refunds is carried out through Paddle, the legal seller. Once a refund request is received, the Company promptly asks Paddle to suspend or cancel the charge or to issue a refund.
Refund method and deadline. Where a ground for a refund arises, such as withdrawal, the Company refunds amounts already received within 3 business days of the date of withdrawal (or, where goods must be returned, the date those goods are returned) (Article 18(2) of the E-Commerce Act). Because a Consilience paid subscription is a service and digital content that by its nature is not subject to return, the deadline above applies based on the date of withdrawal, with no separate return procedure.
Refunds are, in principle, made using the same payment method used for the payment. Where payment was made by credit card or similar, the Company promptly asks the payment provider to suspend or cancel the charge, and where it has already received the amount, refunds it to the payment provider and then notifies the user.
If a refund is delayed. Where a refund is delayed without justifiable cause, the Company pays delay compensation calculated by applying the interest rate set by applicable law (Article 18(2) of the E-Commerce Act and its Enforcement Decree) for the delay period.
Please first submit any dispute regarding service use, payment, or refunds to the Company’s customer support (hello@consilience.md). The Company strives to handle it promptly and fairly.
If it is not amicably resolved, the user may apply for counseling, remedy, or dispute mediation to the following bodies.
Dispute resolution follows applicable laws such as the Framework Act on Consumers and the E-Commerce Act, and the Consumer Dispute Resolution Criteria published by the Korea Fair Trade Commission.
The identity information of the Company (mail-order distributor) is as follows.
Payment processor and legal seller (Merchant of Record): Paddle.com Market Ltd (Paddle, based in the United Kingdom). Responsible for executing payments, billing, taxes (VAT, etc.), and refunds.
The Company may change this Policy to reflect changes in applicable law, payment or service policies, and the like. When this Policy is changed, the Company gives notice of the changes and their effective date before the effective date, on this page (consilience.md/refund) and by appropriate means within the service.
Where a change is unfavorable to users, the Company gives notice by clearer means, and the pre-change policy applies to transactions already in progress. The changed policy applies to payments and subscriptions made on or after its effective date.
